“Lookalike” by Conan Gray – Tune Facts

“Lookalike” by Conan Gray

“Lookalike” captures the narrator’s struggle in letting go of their love for a previous partner. The song begins with them reminiscing on the night they met and the good moments they shared while stressing on the fact that they are no longer together.

In the first chorus and verses, the narrator portrays their former lover as the one who can’t seem to get over them. They imply that although their ex is in a relationship with another guy, they still loves them which is the reason why the ex’s new lover looks like them (the narrator). Whether their narrative is true or not, it gives them a sense of hope that they’ll never be forgotten.

In the bridge and second chorus however, the singer admits that they are actually the one who still thinks about their ex and can’t get over them. Apparently, they still have feelings for them and are seriously searching for a new partner who looks just like them, so they can still keep them in their thoughts.

Since they believe they can never forget them, they hope that even as they have moved on with another person, they will still remember them based on certain good traits they find in this person.
