“Chemtrails Over the Country Club” by Lana Del Rey

The title of this song actually serves as a roundabout shoutout to the homeys and siblings in Lana Del Rey’s life, specifically the female ones. And ultimately, the way the expression reads is as if it is meant to point to chillin’ more than anything else. In other words, a “country club” is a place where people, especially the well-to-do, go to relax.

But the entire track is not set in a country club. For instance, certain scenes take place inside the vocalist’s home. Yet either way, the “country club” phrase points to the idea of she and the person she is with, whether her sister or her lover, enjoying themselves and being at peace.

Additionally, despite being a dreamer Lana is also the type who tends to incorporate the harshness of reality into her lyrics. So all things considered, the titular “chemtrails” read as if they are not really of the literal variety. Rather they represent the notion that even while enjoying quality time with the ones she loves, the less-than-ideal aspects of living in this society are ever-present in the background.

And verily outside of the word “chemtrails”, the lyrics of this song center primarily on the artist and the addressee(s) having a good time. This would be either by the side of her sister – with both of them being iced out “in the swimming pool” – or her aforementioned significant other. Indeed the wording reads largely like an exercise in romantic fantasy, so to speak.

Conclusion

And at the end of the day, even though the songstress has given a somewhat-complex explanation to the meaning of this tune, as well as it incorporating religion and astrology and other types of ideas, the simplest way to understand “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” is as it being centered on the vocalist idealizing family life.
