“This Is Me Trying” by Taylor Swift

“This Is Me Trying” could be yet another relationship-based track which captures feelings of regret and an attempt to mend a broken relationship. It could also be centered on the singer’s career and reflections on her past decisions.

As the song begins, the singer talks about having difficulty adapting to the change that has probably taken place in her relationship or career. Although she regrets leaving, she wonders if the person she left behind still cares about her. These lines could also be a reference to Taylor’s hiatus from music in 2016 where she tried to get away from all the noise about her in the media. She hints that negative speculations rife in the media triggered anxiety issues where she felt like giving up on her limelight lifestyle.

In the second verse, she recalls how much she was full of potential, admired for being ahead of her colleagues and later ironically being criticized for not being mature enough. She further suggests that although she is addressing her issues by being open about it or worse speaking to someone she shouldn’t be talking to, it’s better than resolving to alcohol.

The singer admits her mistakes in the subsequent verses and pleads to restore the relationship because at the end of the day, she still misses and cares about this person. She makes the other party aware that she is trying her best to be better and to repair their broken bond, thus should be given some credit.

“This Is Me Trying” is about admitting one’s flaws and mistakes while making real efforts to make things right.
