“Bam Bam” by Camila Cabello (ft. Ed Sheeran)

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, who enjoyed one of the more noteworthy music industry romances of the past couple of years, officially called it quits in mid-November 2021. Whether or not they actually proceeded to break up thereafter proved to be a slight matter of debate.

But in any event, since they haven’t announced getting back together, then we can take it that they have not. And there are lyrical clues in “Bam Bam” which credibly imply that, from Camila’s perspective, this song was inspired by her relationship with Shawn.

And yes, from Cabello’s point of view specifically, it can be said that this is a breakup song, one in which she is more or less celebrating no longer being involved with the addressee. Or put more directly, she doesn’t seem to have any qualms with the fact that they have broken up and gone their separate ways, as in dating other people. Rather, the way she sees it is that’s just how it goes sometimes. It doesn’t seem that she actually wanted to break up, but in the aftermath of such transpiring she now comes off as having recuperated in full.

Ed Sheeran

Meanwhile, Ed’s character reads more like that of the penitent ex-boyfriend, at least to some extent. He makes a couple of statements alluding to the idea that his actions may be the reason his relationship with the female vocalist hasn’t worked out. But as with Camila, he isn’t privy to harping on the past either.

Indeed this piece is based on a very ‘que sera sera’ type of attitude. Both of the vocalists have been “knocked… down” by love. But now they’re able to celebrate being “back on (their) feet” and apparently appreciating life more so than ever.

Song’s Title

Then concerning the title, “bam bam” doesn’t come across as an actual plot device or having anything specific to do with the narrative, rather being a phrase which Camila and Ed are using, most simply put, in the name of harmonizing. The title shares the same name with the 1992 classic by legendary Jamaican singer and dancehall DJ, Sister Nancy.

Facts about “Bam Bam”

With an official release date of 4 March 2022, this marks Cabello’s first single of said year. And it is the third song that has been made public thus far from “Familia” (with “Bam Bam” itself possessing a few Spanish lyrics), the songstress’s third solo album, which is a product of Epic Records.

The two vocalists co-wrote this song with Ricky Reed, Cheche Alara, Scott Harris and an artist known as Edge.

Cabello first teased this song, primarily via TikTok, in late-February 2022.

This is not Cabello and Sheeran’s first collaboration. The two have teamed up in the past, on a track the latter dropped in 2019 entitled “South of the Border“.
