“Can’t Let You Leave” by LP

LP’s “Can’t Let You Leave” is quite similar in sentiment to “The One That You Love“, another track on LP’s “Churches” album. For once again we have the vocalist dealing with the topic of unrequited love, i.e. a strong emotional dependency on a lover who, by the looks of things, is not really interested in keeping their romance alive.

But what makes this case slightly different is that this time around LP is asserting that despite being made to feel unwanted, she simply does not have to wherewithal to leave the addressee or, as suggested by the title, neither let said individual jet. Therefore, what she is asking for in return is to be treated accordingly, i.e. humanely.

In other words, being that the vocalist doesn’t possess the strength to let the addressee go, the latter is in a position to basically treat her however. Indeed it would appear that she’s already been dealing with LP quite poorly.

And the vocalist is convinced that the addressee doesn’t quite know how much she’s “hurting” her, not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things, since LP has already resolved to endure either way.

So conclusively, this can be considered a pitiful, for lack of a better word, love song. It is clear that the addressee is a toxic partner, one who is perhaps sending signals to the vocalist that she no longer desires a relationship with her. But the latter has already given her all to this romance. And as such, to her the idea of it falling apart is unfathomable.
