Meaning of “Walk on Water” by Thirty Seconds to Mars

“Walk on Water” is a song by the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. According to the band’s lead singer Jared Leto, the lyrics of “Walk on Water” are about change, freedom, persistence and a call to arms to fight for the things that one believes in. He further stated that the message of the song is universal. Hence it is suitable for everybody.

Many critics have referred to the song as nothing short of a political one with many stating that they believe the song’s lyrics strongly oppose U.S. President Donald Trump. Despite the songwriters never categorically confirming or denying this, Jared Leto (who is one of the writers of the song) while receiving an award  at the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony in London said America is “a land of immigrants” and that America welcomes all immigrants with both open hearts and open arms. He went further to state that America loves immigrants.
