“Evermore” by Taylor Swift (ft. Bon Iver)

Taylor Swift’s “Evermore” is somewhat of a depressing song, or at least its primary subject matter is depression. Indeed this less-than-ideal mood the singer is in is one which she perceives may last “evermore”. And all lyrics considered, it is very much feasible that what Swift and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon are actually speaking to is the year 2020. The said year was in fact a melancholy era for many due to the coronavirus and such.

But the silver lining in the song, as illustrated by the second bridge, is that in times of despair and loneliness, the vocalists find solace in thinking of one another (i.e. the addressee). It can be interpreted that they are portraying the role of lovers, but such may not necessarily be so. But either way, the addressee of the singer’s words serves as a symbol of encouragement in his or her life during these emotionally hard times.

This is the title song and closing track from the standard edition of Taylor Swift’s ninth-studio full-length, a surprise album which came out on 11 December 2020. The label that put the track out is RCA Records. And the song was written by Taylor, Justin and Swift’s boyfriend at the time, Joe Alwyn. Taylor also produced the track, doing so in conjunction with Aaron Dessner.

“Evermore” is actually the second collaboration between Taylor Swift and Bon Iver. The first would be a song Tay Tay dropped earlier in 2020 as part of her Folklore album entitled “Exile“.

Did Taylor release this as a lead single?

No. The album’s lead single was the song “Willow“.
