Maroon 5’s “Nobody’s Love” Lyrics Meaning

It is easy to deduce that Maroon 5’s “Nobody’s Love” is a romantic love tune. It is one of those types in which the singer, using different statements and metaphors, lets the world know just how dependent he is emotionally on the addressee being by his side. And the title comes from the assertion that if he can’t be with her, then he would be “nobody’s love”. Or stated differently, she is the only person that he can ever truly care for.

But there may be more to it than that. For the video implies that the addressee may actually be a joint, as in weed. When you thoroughly watch the video, it’s plausible that “Nobody’s Love” may actually be Maroon 5’s ode to smoking grass. Indeed said clip concludes with a message advocating the decriminalization of weed. And proving that their money is where their mouth is, Maroon 5 (as well as Interscope Records) have pledged to make donations to the ACLU, which is the same organization which authored the aforementioned message on the video.

Moreover, when listening to the song with that idea in mind, yes, the wording does come off as if the singer can artistically be acknowledging the irreplaceable  role of a spliff in his life. This is without doubt an idea which fellow weed aficionados can definitely relate to.

Moreover, Levine himself described this tune as, ideologically, one of those types of ‘promoting love during a rough 2020’ kind of songs. So in acknowledging that type of macrocosmic premise, we can argue that this isn’t your run-of-the-mill love song. But that being said, no matter who the intended addressee is, it is obvious that the singer is faithful to her/it, as he considers her/it to be irreplaceable.

Facts about “Nobody’s Love”

This track came out, via Interscope Records and 222 Records, in July 2020. It was the first song which Maroon 5 dropped during 2020.

The director of the music video to “Nobody’s Love”, David Dobkin, also worked on a number of Maroon 5’s hit videos in the past. Said clip was filmed on an iPhone in Los Angeles and only was a two-man affair, as in only Dobkin and Levine being involved in it.
