“Never Ending” by Rihanna – Tune Facts

“Never Ending” by Rihanna

Many analysts have interpreted “Never Ending” as a love song. This is due to a romantic reference found at the end of the chorus and at that point only. There Rihanna expresses an excitement yet simultaneous reluctance in terms of falling in love again. But there is a reason that this track has limited references to romance. And that’s because in actuality, it is not a love song.

Rather its primary composer, Chad Sabo, had written it during a time when he was thoroughly – perhaps we can even say disturbingly – high on ganja. That’s why for instance there are a number of allusions to the concept of the singer’s mind being separated from her body, so to speak. Also the mention of “a drug and a dream” is presented forthrightly at the beginning of the second verse. Indeed Sabo had gone on to elaborate that the only reason he added the aforementioned romantic reference at all was just to make the song more relatable.

So ultimately, the title of the track doesn’t have anything to do with Rihanna being caught up in any type of emotional cycle. Rather what it actually points to, bluntly stated, is the singer tripping, so to speak.

Facts about “Never Ending”

“Never Ending” was originally conceived by Chad Sabo, who produced and co-wrote it. At the time he was an amateur writer. And the other writers are Rihanna and Paul Herman. Noted British singer and songwriter, Dido is also credited as a writer.

Dido (as well as Herman) is credited because, at least officially, this tune interpolates a track she dropped back in 2000 entitled “Thank You”. But Chad Sabo has clarified that he did not actually use Dido’s tune. However, he was forced to credit her and its other co-writer after noticing similarities between the two songs.

In 2020, A list songstress Britney Spears made headlines when she posted an Instagram clip dancing to this song.

“Never Ending” is from Rihanna’s famed “Anti” album, which was released on 28 January 2016.  Its record labels are Roc Nation as well as one Riri founded herself called Westbury Road.
