“One Day the Only Butterflies Left Will Be in Your Chest as You March Towards Your Death” by Bring Me The Horizon (ft. Amy Lee)

To begin with, Bring Me the Horizon’s “One Day the Only Butterflies Left Will Be in Your Chest as You March Towards Your Death” is a very deep song. Its lengthy title seems to capture the very essence of the song which speaks about how humanity has destroyed the environment. Amy sings from the perspective of mother nature or the environment, whereas Oliver in this case represents humanity.

The song begins with Amy (Mother Nature) complaining about how humanity keeps messing with the environment while ignoring the fact that they need her to survive. She continues to emphasize on the destruction caused by humans. As she laments, she reminds humans of their imminent death and diseases as a result.

Oli, who represents humanity in the second verse seems to realize the harm they have done and questions why they had been stressing and hurting mother earth at their own peril.

The song ends with both singers addressing the difficulties that both humans and nature will face as a result of the destruction carried out on the environment. Since their survival is interdependent, both cannot breathe or exist without each other.

This track happens to be the ninth and final off the band’s 2020 album titled Post Human: Survival Horror. Both track and project were formally released on the same date – October 30, 2020.

Amy Lee co-wrote this track with Oliver Sykes and Jordan Fish.
