Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun” Lyrics Meaning

On Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun”, the narrator seems to suggest that there are advantages attached to being able to grow up and make decisions for yourself. The song is based on the premise that you will not always have your parents or loved ones at your beck and call.

For the writer, stepping into the real world can present very hard choices. However, these are meant to make you stronger and better once you learn to deal with them. She employs a lot of sarcasm to depict the message that though being on your own can be very tough, you don’t have to be shattered by change but rather grow into it.

“Ain’t it fun living in the real world?’

Hayley in a post on Paramore’s Live Journal explained that the song is targeted at people who at times forget that they are not the center of the whole universe. She added that the song is also addressed to herself at a point when she felt she needed to mature and move out of her comfort zone.
