“So Good” by Halsey – Tune Facts

“So Good” by Halsey

Halsey may be an artist who is adverse at being referred to via gender pronouns. This implies that the singer is nonbinary or what have you. But the lyrics of this song (“So Good”) make it abundantly clear that the singer is addressing a male romantic interest and more specifically, within context, her ex.

From a lyrical perspective, the song does take somewhat of a unique approach to a well-worn pop theme, which is being romantically heartbroken. For instance, the title is sort of a misdirection, as what it refers to is the vocalist’s idealized vision of her relationship with the addressee. This is obviously the exact opposite of how things actually are.

Instead as presented, when they first parted ways, he started another relationship with someone else, one that the vocalist was hoping would end. But instead, in the present, some “couple years” later, we find Halsey just as, if not more so romantically frustrated as back then. In other words, the addressee did not return to the narrator. And yes, the narrator has yet to get over him. Moreover, it’s as if the narrator’s own life has not proceeded since. So conclusively, there does not appear to be a foreseeable end to the vocalist’s broken heart in sight.

Release of “So Good”

“So Good”, which came out on 9 June 2022, marks Halsey’s first non-soundtrack single since the 2021 album “I Am Not a Woman, I’m a God”. (Earlier in 2022, Halsey dropped a song titled “Could Have Been Me” which was associated with a movie named Sing 2.)

Prior to the release of “So Good”, the singer did get into some well-publicized beef with Capitol Music over its issuance.

Halsey Beefs with Capitol Records

The first teasing of this song seems to have come during late May of 2022, in a less-than-ideal fashion. Halsey revealed to her followers, via TikTok, that her “record company” was stifling the release of this track. The singer then went on a semi-rant which is somewhat nonspecific. However, the rant appeared to be alleging that Capitol wanted Halsey to “fake a viral moment on TikTok”. According to the singer’s ranting, the label wanted the fabrication of some prepublicity, if you will – before they gave “So Good” the green light.

AD

Well Capitol did get around to releasing the track a couple of weeks later. So maybe Halsey’s beefing, even if not what they had anticipated, did generate ample press. But in the process, the long-standing label also explained that they ‘love and respect’ Halsey and is “an artist-first company”.
