“STraNgeRs” by Bring Me The Horizon

There’s a lot going on in this song (“STraNgeRs”) on the metaphorically-sentimental level. What it is meant to point to, premise-wise, is the notion of the singer suffering from low self-esteem, i.e. a harrowing depression which has made his outlook on life woefully pessimistic. Moreover, he is able to perceive that countless others, if you will, are going through the exact same thing.

And that brings us to the idea upon which the title/chorus is based. This collection of ragtag individuals, as noted above, is what the vocalist, in unison, is referring to as “a room full of strangers”. And what it is that unites them is a personal sense of irreversible dejection.

So with all of that in mind, the intended thesis sentiment is supposed to read like a call for, most simply explained, random people to network in the name of mitigating each other’s “differing traumas”, as Oli put it in his own words. Oli further clarified that this piece was inspired by mutually-traumatic experience we refer to as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Release of “sTraNgeRs”

Upon being released on 6 July 2022, there were reports that “sTraNgeRs” is a single from an upcoming Bring Me the Horizon (BMTH) project called “Post Human 2”. And that in turn will be the second installment in what is known as the Post Human series, “Post Human: Survival Horror”, which BMTH put out in 2020.

Credits

BMTH members Oli Sykes and Jordan Fish are credited with writing this song alongside the writers below:

  • Caroline Allin

Things worth noting:

“sTraNgeRs” is actually the first single BMTH put out in 2022 which isn’t a collaboration. Earlier in the year, the band served as the features on the following songs:

  • Ed Sheeran (“Bad Habits“)
  • Machine Gun Kelly (“Maybe”)
  • Masked Wolf (“Fallout”)
  • Sigrid (“Bad Life“)

And for the record, besides for the aforementioned Sykes (vocalist) and Fish (keyboardist), the band also consists of guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean and drummer Matt Nicholls, with this particular quintet being a unit since 2012.
