“Sweet” by Lana Del Rey – Tune Facts

“Sweet” by Lana Del Rey

One simple way of describing “Sweet” is as a song whereas the vocalist goes about reasserting her value as a woman, though of course in Lana Del Rey style. This is against the backdrop of her addressing a romantic partner whereas she can’t tell if he’s really serious or not, i.e. willing to make a real commitment beyond “making out a lot”.

It seems by this point, the vocalist is coming under the impression that maybe he isn’t, rather preferring “some basic b*tch” which, all things considered, we would take to mean a woman who isn’t interested in a long-term romance.

Or let’s say that Lana’s inferring that he’s intimidated by the prospect of being committed to a strong woman. That creates a dilemma because she’s the type who knows herself and isn’t afraid to embrace her individuality.

But on the other side of that coin, if the addressee rather prefers a real woman, Lana can take him there, to a place she describes as “the sweet north country”. It may be that this is a literal location but most likely is a symbolic/metaphorical one. And that would be her natural place, her sweet spot so to speak, which is only accessible to a lover who is truly serious.

So now, the onus is on the addressee to decide where this relationship will go. Either he will take the easy way out and go to town to seek out some superficial lady to be his plaything. Or he will marry the vocalist, as she apparently desires.

As can be gleaned from the first half of the bridge especially, that Lana is using this opportunity to speak up for all women who have grown weary of romances which lack lifelong depth.

“I’m a different kind of woman
If you want some basic bi–h, go to the Beverly Center and find her
I’m sweet, bare feet
If you wanna go where nobody goes
That’s where you’ll find me
In the sweet north country
If I’m not there, comе to my house on Genesee”

The Team behind “Sweet”

Drew Erickson, a musician who made a name for himself in the background of Lana Del Rey’s career, wrote and produced this song with her.

Its release date was on 24 March 2023, being the third track on the playlist of “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd”, Del Rey’s studio album which, as with virtually all of the others, was issued through Polydor and Interscope.

So in love with this Song

“I cannot find the right words to say how much I adore this song. I have been playing it non-stop since its release. ‘Sweet’ transports me to a mental state comparable to being in paradise. Whenever I listen to it, I feel as though my soul transcends the limitations of my mind. I know she won’t receive a Grammy for this, but it is without a shred of doubt the best song of 2023.”

“Sweet” made me feel complete again

This was the last song I listened to on the album and all I can say is thank you, Lana! With “Sweet,” she has been able to convince me beyond any doubt that she is one of the most incredibly inspiring artists of our time. I listened to the song deep into the night and went to bed feeling blessed by its lyrics.

I love Lana so much. She is the most inspiring and genuinely sweet person I can think of. Her love for art is so obvious, intimate, warm, motivating, mature, emotional, and sincere, and her songs will forever hold a special place in my heart.

‘Sweet’ has made me feel whole again. I am forever grateful to her for making me appreciate life once again. I’m grateful to her for all she is doing for mankind and she will always hold that special place in my heart.
