“The Voice” by Lil Durk

On this song, Lil Durk presents himself as “the voice of the streets”. That is to say that despite his monumental success, he is still grounded in the ‘hood life which he was brought up in. And basically, this is one of those types of rap songs in which the artist sets about encapsulating the gist of his beliefs combined with specific observations. And basically what Durk is saying is that even though he keeps it real throughout, he is still inevitably going to have his doubters.

Geffen Records and Alamo Records put “The Voice” out in September 2020. At the time it appears to be the title track of an album Durk is slated to drop.

The reason it was released on that particular date was to counteract the concurrent issuance of Tekashi 6ix9ine’s album “Tattle Tales”, as Lil Durk is amongst Tekashi’s most-outspoken rivals. And when it was made known that Durk was only dropping a single as opposed to the entire album as anticipated, 6ix9ine used it as an opportunity to mock him.
